*happy sigh as I hear Lord of the Rings Music playing*

Did you all know that yesterday, December 19th – marked 15 years since The Fellowship of the Ring, the beginning of an incredible journey that would enchant so many people and fill ever so many hearts, first released in the theaters?

I can not even believe that movie is 15 years old… You know that means that I wasn’t even 3 years old yet? I wish I had been born earlier so that I could have experienced the excitement of this incredible movie first hand. So that I could have seen all the merchandise and hoarded figurines and collectibles galore.

For years I wasn’t able to see The Lord of the Rings movies, but I grew up in a household that was obsessed with it, so I heard about it all the time.
I remember seeing Narnia for the first time and totally dying and loving it. I used to say that there was no way Lord of the Rings could be better than that and let me tell you – I got a lot of disapproving looks from my family whenever I said that. In fact, my brother, Jordan used to say – “You better like Lord of the Rings more!”

Then the day came when my life was changed forever.

On December 23rd, 2012 I watched The Fellowship of the Ring for the very first time. Within the first two minutes I was completely hooked. I was taken into Middle-Earth – a world full of mystical creatures, evil sorcerers, and characters with such depth that they felt like friends, and still do to this day.

Ever since that night The Lord of the Rings has held first place in my list of favorite movies. It is a work of art that needs to be seen. A story that needs to be heard. An adventure that needs to be traveled.

There are no words to describe just how amazing it really is and believe me, if you have never seen it or read the books – you are in for a surprise. It’s nothing at all like what you think it is and it will leave you drained and dead.

No matter how many times I watch these movies I still cry. I still laugh. I still feel everything. Though I can never watch it again as I watched it the first time, it will always be special and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I truly feel like each member of the Fellowship are friends of mine. I’ve never felt that way about characters in a movie before. The only others that hold close second are Han Solo and Chewbacca. That’s it.
Because of this close connection I feel to them, I feel that way about the actors behind them. Watching the bonus features and seeing how hard it was on the last day of shooting of  The Return of the King for Peter Jackson to say that the scene was good and how Elijah Wood walked up to him crying and embraced him absolutely breaks my heart. They were all a huge family for so many years and this was the end. They had to say their last goodbyes. <3

My favorite movie out of the three is without a doubt Return of the King. It gave me every single emotion you can possibly have. I cried so hard. It’s so beautiful, so epic, so amazing, and so heartbreaking all at the same time. Did you know that Return of the King did a clean sweep at the Academy Awards? It won every single award. What more proof do you need of its amazingness than that? 😉

To those of you who haven’t watched any of the movies yet, when you do, make sure you don’t turn it off right when the credits start rolling. You have to listen to the credits songs. They’re all amazing and are so much more effective when you hear them immediately when the movie ends.
And after you watch them, drop me a comment! I’d love discuss my all time favorite movies with you :)

Thank you, J.R.R. Tolkien for writing the most amazing story I have ever heard.

And thank you, Peter Jackson, for bringing this story to life in such an amazingly beautiful way. You did an incredible job.

Do you like LOTR? Did it change your life?

  • Nice post, Jaclynn! I’m not a huge LOTR person, but I do love the whole concept of Middle Earth and such. 😀

  • LOTR has definitely changed my life. My dad started reading the books to me when I was a toddler, so it’s been a part of me for as long as I can remember. I’m so thankful for it! :)

    • Aww, how sweet! I want to start reading the books on a yearly basis – like Christopher Lee used to do! :)
I’m thankful for it, too. <3

  • YES YES YES!!!!! LOTR!!! XD
I read the books four years ago, and watched the movies about 2 years later. The movies are EPIC, but I love the books even more. It is truly (in my humble opinion :) ) the best story ever told. Tolkien just makes you feel like you are sitting by a fire with him telling you this story. (Did you know that the idea for LotR came from bedtime stories he told his kids? Tolkien: “Now, let me tell you about the undead kings…” His kids: “Aaaaah!”)
It did change me in subtle ways. I look for adventures more now, for one.
    Thanks for this awesome post!

    • I AGREE STRONGLY! It’s just the greatest ever. <3
LOL! Oh, gosh. That would be creepy. O_O XD
That's awesome! The road goes ever on and on... 😉
You're welcome! And thank you! 😀

  • I love LOTR so much! My family has this amazing tradition every Christmas. We watch all of LOTR dividing into 3 different nights and then The Hobbit in 3 different nights as well. I’m a huge fan of it! I will always love Middle Earth…

  • I love the LOTR. In fact, when I was in New Zealand my family got an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour. You know that scene where Bilbo asks to see the ring one last time, Frodo says no, and Bilbo yells and jumps and looks really weird for like .2 seconds? I got to play with that puppet of creepy Bilbo! I also got to hold hobbit feet. My brother got to have a sword fight (using swords used in LOTR!) with the founder of WETA, the studio that does a bunch of stuff for them. It was so amazing and it lasted 4 hours. It’s because my uncle and aunt worked on The Hobbit. It was amazing. Wow that whole thing sounded like a big story lol, but it’s true.

  • Did I just see Lord Of The Rings?!! *flails because tLotR is the best* *is dying over here*
Seriously, though. Tolkien is such a genius! (and so is Howard Shore bc he made me cry and I never cry at movies XD). There are a few rare minutes I always skip over (I don’t like watching Haldir die, okay? HALDIR MY POOR ELF), but oh my goodness LORD OF THE RINGS IS THE BESSST. And now we come to the end of my ranting.

    • WHOO HOO!! LOTR FAN ALERT!!! *does one of those awesome elvish bows to my fellow LOTR lover*
      HE IS!! *dies with you*
Awwww, I know!! I love Haldir, too! :( The only part we skip is the whole scene where Smeagol is turning into Gollum… Just no. And I also don’t watch the scene in the Dead Marshes with the dead people… XD
      YES, IT IS!!
