I have been working on writing a book, but I’ve barely done anything with it. I can see what’s going to happen in my mind, but I just can’t write it. Does that sound weird? It’s just that, the way I write is I can’t just start writing and everything flows well. I have to be inspired. But that totally goes against a quote I wanna work by which says, “Serious writers write, inspired or not. Over time they discover that routine is a better friend than inspiration.” ~ Ralph Keyes. I have been able to just start writing when I’m uninspired a couple of times, but most of the time, it doesn’t work out. The weird thing for me right now is that I feel inspired to write, but I’m somehow finding it hard to start. I don’t know why, though. I honestly don’t know how long it’s been since I worked on my book. It’s been over a month for sure. Probably going on 2 months!
So I’m wondering…. What do you do when you just can’t seem to write? Do you force yourself into working on your story? Or do you just keep waiting until you feel ready? I really miss writing and I’d love to start having my writing days again, but I’m just so confused and don’t know what to do….

Any advice or inspiration would be really appreciated! :)

Love,
~Fluffet

  • Hi Sweetie , two things come to my mind and you know my mind ;-)> first is get your mind going by writing anything no matter how dumb or stupid and even if it doesn’t come within a planet of what you want to write, just get your imagination in charge then re direct it a little here and there. Later when you are editing then purge all the irrelevant stuff and build on what is remaining. When you try to perfect it as you go you don’t run with it you just Stop! Stop! Stop! get the idea? Second if you have the pictures already in your mind you can tell it Papa’s Way

    • Hi Papa! Thank you so much for your help! I think I definitely want to try the writing a bunch of random stuff. Who knows, maybe doing that will get me inspired for another story! :) Love you! <3

  • Whenever I’m in a writing rut, I make book trailers! They are SO much fun to make and super easy, too! Find some pictures, a few catchy lines and some suspenseful music and you have yourself a book trailer. Whenever you feel un-inspired, just watch it and it will get you excited about the book and motivate you. That’s what I do and it really works. 😀

  • This happens to me quite often. First, I’d suggest you really get inspired-watch movies or read books with complex plots and perhaps take note of particular tacts you found interesting. I find listening to film score music really inspires my writing! After you’ve done that, I suggest you write a few short stories-you can even look online for visual prompts that would really give you ideas. Hopefully those short stories will inspire you, and maybe even make an appearance in your larger project. The object is never to feel forced to write, or feel like you have to write even if you aren’t inspired or into it at the moment. Sometimes it’s good to take risks as well-just let that pen fly without a thought! :)

  • I like storybird.com. Fun writing site that has tons of art to use too,.
